Facial waxing eliminates unwanted hair and reveals smooth, beautiful skin. Unlike shaving, which eliminates hair only at the surface of your skin, waxing removes hair by its roots and lasts longer. If you are new to facial waxing, here’s what you should know to prevent any minor skin irritation.

4 Tips to Help You Prepare for Facial Waxing

1. Ensure Your Hair Is the Right Length

Check that the hair you wish to remove is the right length. It should be between 1/8 and 1/4 inches long so that the wax can grip the strands. Hair that is too short or too long may not be completely removed.

2. Avoid Topical Irritants & the Sun

Stay out of the sun in the days before facial waxing as well as on the day of your appointment. Dry, sunburned skin is extra sensitive and prone to irritation when waxed. Also, avoid putting any retinol-infused skincare products on your skin, and wait to make waxing appointments if you have minor cuts or inflamed blemishes on your skin until they heal.

Apply only mild exfoliants in the day or two before waxing, or dispense with them entirely, and do not scrub your skin when applying. After your spa session, refrain from exfoliating for a week to give your skin time to heal.

4. Apply Moisturizer Until Waxing Day

Continue to apply a daily moisturizer to your skin except on the day of your appointment. Wax adheres to healthy skin, not slick surfaces. Use a mild astringent instead so that your skin is clean, oil-free, and ready for waxing.
