When browsing the options available at a car dealership, many buyers have to choose between sedans and coupes. There are multiple factors that distinguish them and can be helpful to consider before making your selection. Here’s a guide that will help you make the right call.

Coupes

Coupes were originally inspired by a model of horse-drawn carriages that was especially easy and pleasant for passengers to ride in. Initially, they didn’t have tops, but these were later added once these vehicles rose to prominence and consumers sought more options. Some coupe models available at car dealerships are also convertibles with retractable roofs today.

Coupes only have two doors, and are smaller, sleeker, and sportier vehicles. Expect precision control while driving. Since they tend to be more compact, you may even save money on gas. With the smaller space, they don’t usually make sense for growing families, and also tend to have less storage room.

Sedans

car dealershipThe sedan originated in France as an open-air design. General Motors® further developed the concept by adding enclosures. With four doors instead of two, and comfortable room for five, it’s a more sensible car if you have children or many passengers. They also tend to include significantly more trunk space, so they come in handy for transporting items. Hatchbacks, a variation on a sedan, offer even more storage opportunities.

While sedans may not be as sporty, they still handle well, and are considered safe, reliable vehicles. If you prefer sedans but want more flourish, look for a model with a sunroof that can emulate the fun, open feel of a convertible.
