Did you know women smile on an average 62 times a day – while men smile on average only 8 times a day.  The smile is always one of the first facial features people notice – in addition to the eyes, so it is natural to want to look your best on first impressions.  However, the whiteness of your smile can fade as new stains set in between cleaning appointments, which can effect your self-confidence.

Try Do It Yourself solutions to help keep your teeth healthy and white until your next dental cleaning.

  1.  Find foods that are high in fiber and typically crispy or crunchy.  Fruits and vegetables are healthy options that help clean the teeth.  Be mindful of how much sugar intake.  Sugar contributes to plague build up, which can dull your smile.  Apples, celery, carrots, make great snacks for cleaning your teeth after a meal if you can not brush your teeth.
  2. Do you know raw onions are good for your teeth?  Studies have shown that the antibacterial sulfur compound in onions kills many types of bacteria.  Onions are one of Worlds top foods for teeth.
  3. Avoid sugary or acidic substances – Bacteria feed on sugars in your mouth.  Acidic drinks and foods similarly weaken your teeth and make it more susceptible to damage and discoloration.
  4. Remember dark liquids like coffee, tea and soda can discolor and darken the enamel of your teeth.  If you can not cut these beverages out, cutting back or using a straw when you drink them can help.

If you are looking to ensure that your teeth stay healthy, it is a good idea to eat healthy nutritious and balanced meals, and limit snacks.  You should avoid carbs such as candy, pretzels, and chips, which can remain on the tooth surface.
