Dear Supporter,

My name is Erin Pollander, the Director of Philanthropy at Nutmeg Spay/Neuter Clinic, a 501(c)3 non-profit located in Stratford, CT.  I am reaching out to you to share in our passion for our community and their pets.  On September 28, 2019, Nutmeg Spay/Neuter Clinic will be holding our first fundraising event, “Bowling for Pets for Life,” to raise money for our “Pets for Life” community outreach program.

Only 1 out of every 8 dogs born will find a permanent home.  Only 1 out of every 10 cats will be as lucky.

There are simply not enough adoptive homes – each year,  approximately 3 million dogs and cats are euthanized because the shelters are at maximum capacity, and overpopulation is a growing concern.

Now imagine this:  You are an animal lover, always have been.  When your four-pawed best friend showed up unexpectedly at your door in the dead of winter, you were more than happy to give him a warm place to sleep (your bed) and a hearty meal (anything his little heart desires).  Things have always been a little tight financially, but recently you and your family have truly fallen on difficult times.  Regardless, you want to keep your promise to care for your furry friend that has always been there for you.  After all, he kept you company when you were laid off; he always kept an eye on Grandma after she became ill, and you felt safer knowing he protected your children in the yard…

That’s where YOU and Pet’s for Life comes in.

Pet’s for Life (PFL) is a revolutionary program launched by HSUS to target low income, underserved communities and investing funds to keep pets in their current homes rather than using that money to intake, house, and rehomeThe Pets for Life philosophy promotes understanding that the lack of financial means does not equate to a lack of love felt for the pet.  Everyone’s lives can be enhanced by a pet, and those who choose should have the opportunity to experience the unconditional love and meaningful relationship the human-animal bond brings.  Pets for Life provides financial assistance for spay/neuter and other medical care, assistance with behavior issues, transportation, pet deposits, and so much more.

Nutmeg Spay/Neuter Clinic has been serving the Bridgeport zip code of 06608 exclusively.  We selected our program focus area due to the level of poverty, limited or non-existent access to pet wellness resources, and a high percentage of renters.  Through the PFL program, Nutmeg clinic has already served more than 1,200 pets and given more than 2,000 medications, services, and other supplies at no cost to families.  The conversion rate, which is the number of pets spayed or neutered out of all the unaltered pets met through Nutmeg Clinic, is 80%. These metrics further illustrate that lack of access to resources is a primary roadblock to veterinary care in these communities.

Our goal is to expand the geographic location of the families and pets we currently serve – and we want you to be a part of our mission.

That’s why I am writing to you!  Will you support us in our Pet’s for Life community outreach program?  Just a small tax-deductible donation can help us accomplish our goal of extending our reach to so many more families and pets in need.  Your generous donation will be used strategically to combat pet overpopulation through a combination of free wellness and spay/neuter services, education, and much-needed pet supplies.

Thank you in advance for your tax-deductible contribution.  Your generosity is nothing short of humbling to our staff, our supporters, and those who benefit from the Pets for Life program.  We truly appreciate your thoughtfulness and participation.

P.S.  You are the hero in this story.  None of the animal advocacy and community work that we do would be possible without investors like yourself.  This innovative, community-oriented program is going to be the future of both animal advocacy and neighborhood outreach, and that is because of your passion and generosity!
