Part of effective leadership involves getting to know your employees—their strengths, their weaknesses, and how they work with others. While every individual is unique and should be treated as such, most tend to fall under certain personality types. Recognizing the qualities below in members of your team might help you develop strategies to bring out the best in everyone.

Type A Personality

Characteristics of a Type "A" personality include a desire to take charge and control the work environment. These individuals possess a drive to achieve, a focus on the bottom line, and a tendency to delegate responsibility to others when it comes to handling details. When you need a thick-skinned person to offer effective leadership, this might be your go-to candidate. Their personal sense of responsibility will ensure projects start and finish well and on time.

Type B Personality

Type B personalities tend to take a more casual approach to life and work. These employees may be less intense and stress-filled when it comes to achieving success, but they get tasks done. They thrive on praise and positive feedback.

Type C & D Personalities

management-trainingType C and D personalities thrive in a secure and controlled work environment where they know what is expected of them but are still allowed some creativity in its execution. They are not prone to controversy and keep to themselves rather than rocking the boat, responding well to effective leadership. Count on them to support the team and focus on completing the mission without drama.

When you put a Type A in charge of delegating work to a balanced group of Type B, C, and D workers, you have the potential for building a strong and successful team.
