Members of the association must subscribe to the Realtor Code of Ethics. This code consists of 17 articles, which are more restrictive than the state guidelines for agents. For example, members pledge to put the interest of their buyers and sellers ahead of their own and treat all parties honestly. They will cooperate with other brokers and agents when it’s in their client’s best interest, and will not co-mingle their client’s funds with their own. They will not collect commissions without the seller’s knowledge or accept fees from a third party without their consent.
2. Fair & Honest Business Practices
The Code of Ethics also provides guidelines for fair and honest business practices. For example, they will refrain from concealing facts or otherwise misrepresenting a property. If they ever have a present or contemplated interest in a transaction, they will either disclose it or avoid providing service. They will not discriminate in any fashion for any reason on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or national origin.
