With the summer season in full swing, you probably can’t wait to take your RV out of storage and head out on the road. However, if your RV has been sitting in a storage unit for months, it will likely need some work before you can drive it.

4 Ways to Prepare Your RV for a Road Trip

1. Clean & Inspect the Exterior

After being in storage for months, your RV has likely accumulated a lot of dirt, dust, and other debris. Use a gentle car soap to remove all that gunk from your RV’s exterior. It’s also a good idea to inspect the outside of your RV for cracks and other signs of damage. If you find any cracks on the doors, windows or roof, seal them with caulk.

2. Check the Tires

storageIt’s normal for your RV’s tires to lose quite a bit of pressure in storage. To avoid having a tire blowout on the road, check your tire pressure. Refer to your owner’s manual from your manufacturer to find the correct tire pressure suggested for your tires.

3. Flush Out the RV Water Tank

The antifreeze you added to your RV’s water tank to prevent freezing must be flushed out. To accomplish this, attach one end of the drinking hose to a safety supply line and allow the water to run to flush out the chemicals.

4. Check the Batteries

Batteries in an RV can lose their charge in storage, so it’s important to inspect them. First, look for any cracks that may have developed on the batteries. If you see cracks, you’ll have to replace them. Then, charge the batteries.
