You know that your child will learn many valuable lessons if they read the Bible. Share your passion for the Word of God with young children by helping them love to read it as well. Try each of the strategies below to encourage them to conduct a diligent and enjoyable Bible study each day.

How to Encourage Bible Study for Children

1. Get a Visual Bible

Long blocks of text are intimidating to adults, so imagine how challenging it is for a younger child. Find a children’s study Bible that has illustrations. The images break up the text, making each chapter more manageable. The photos will also help them picture what they are reading to improve their comprehension and help them remember what they’ve learned.

2. Read Together

Bible study each evening as a worshipfamily brings you all closer together and allows for valuable discussion. Your commitment to reading the Word will pass onto your children, who look to you as an example. Set a time for each evening that you will all get together, such as after dinner or before you say your evening prayers. Keep the readings short, so you have time to discuss what you’ve read without losing young children’s short attention spans.

3. Ask & Answer Questions

Discussion about the reading is a valuable part of your children’s study. Encourage your child to relate the text to their own life by asking what the passage taught them and how it applies to them. Encourage them to ask you any questions they have. If they ask a question you cannot answer, tell them you’ll find the answer through study or asking your church leader.

Joining a Bible study group at Knox Presbyterian Church will help the entire family get the most out of their reading. This Presbyterian church in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Cincinnati, OH, has been a part of the community since 1895. They teach traditional beliefs and respect individual interpretations of the Word. Pastor Adam Fronczek offers a traditional worship service each Sunday at 10 AM. Learn more about their youth group and other services on their website, or call (513) 321-2573 if you have any questions
