Sluggish Internet speeds can be frustrating and get in the way of work and leisure. There can be multiple reasons for the slow service, most of which are easy to troubleshoot. Before you upgrade your plan, try the following to see if it makes a difference.

Reasons Your Internet Is Slow

1. Too Many Devices Online

The more devices you have connected to your Internet connection, the slower it will go. This includes smartphones, voice assistance, and automation and security systems that are often forgotten about. If multiple people are using the Internet at the same time, you’ll also have slower Internet speeds. Disconnect devices that aren’t being used.

2. Poor Router Placementinternet

If you have a high-speed Internet plan but are dealing with long load times, check the router placement. It should be in a central area, away from walls and obstructions. Make sure there’s nothing placed on top of it. If you have a multi-floor office, consider investing in ping towers to extend the signal. This way, you’ll have the best reception no matter where you are.

3. Others Using Your WiFi Network

Neighbors can slow down your Internet speeds if they’re logged into your service. Find the login data on the back of your modem and log into the portal on your web browser. From there, you can see who is using your Internet service. Regardless, setting up a secure network for your WiFi would be a prudent choice. Create a password that contains both uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. The password should only be shared with family members and trusted individuals.
