Modern truck tires and suspension systems are designed to provide the smoothest ride possible. Sometimes, however, there is no getting around the fact that certain road conditions make a bumpy and uncomfortable riding experience. To help you deal with this common issue, below are three ways to improve the ride quality of your truck.

How to Improve Truck Ride Quality

1. Install Durable Air Springs

Durable air springs provide additional support to your coil-over suspension system. Also called airbags, these springs are comprised of durable rubber that absorbs energy from bumps and jolts in the road, with the strength necessary to support the weight of the vehicle and cargo. They have the added benefit of helping the truck stay level, preventing back-end sagging and damage.

2. Change Your Truck Tires

Low-profile tires look excellent truck tireson a truck, but they can’t hold as much air, meaning less cushioning for your ride. They also typically require bigger rims, which can upset the weight distribution of the vehicle and further disturb the smoothness of how the truck drives. Instead, choose a truck tire that is narrow and light, less than 18 inches in diameter, and less than 7 inches in width.

3. Lighten the Chassis

The chassis is essentially the skeleton of your vehicle, the bones that hold and support the rest of the truck. In general, always use lighter components when replacing chassis parts. For instance, replacement parts made of aluminum, carbon fiber, or ceramic all weigh significantly less than the steel parts that come with the vehicle. Lightening the chassis load means less weight to stabilize and transport, resulting in a smoother ride.
