Finishing CDL training and passing the test for a commercial driver's license will start you on the path to new career opportunities. As with any test, it's not uncommon to experience some last-minute jitters and anxieties, but a little preparation is all that's necessary to ensure your CDL training pays off and you achieve a passing score. Here are a few tips to help you do that.

How to Pass the CDL Test

1. Avoid Automatic Failures

Going in, know the factors that can result in an automatic failure of a CDL test, so you can take steps to avoid them. During the road test, don't get into an accident, run a stop sign or red light, or commit any other serious traffic infractions. However, also be careful not to make little errors that can be equally disqualifying, like neglecting to use a turn signal or not checking your mirrors.

2. Be Calm & Confident

If you're anxious or nervous, try not to show it. Just exuding an air of calm and confidence can often help you assume those qualities. Breathe slowly and deeply and think back on your CDL training. Tell yourself that you've got this—even if you don't believe it.

3. Practice Good Self-Care

CDL trainingIn the days leading up to the exam, take care of yourself. Study hard, but take regular breaks and get some fresh air and a little exercise. The night before the test, aim for a full seven or eight hours of sleep. Before the test, eat a substantial meal that will keep you full and satisfied enough to focus on the exam and not on your hunger.

4. Check the Weather Forecast

In the days leading up to your test, check the weather forecast for the day of the exam. This way, you'll be prepared and can read up on what to do and what precautions to take when driving in certain weather conditions, like rain, snow, or high winds.
