You rely on your dryer to help you stay on top of laundry-day chores. What is more satisfying than stacks of clean, dry, fluffy, and folded clothing? If your dryer stops working as it should, don’t despair. By doing a little troubleshooting and knowing where to find dryer parts, you may be able to resolve your laundry problems in a snap. Here are three tips for repairing problems with dryers.

Dryer Problems & How to Fix Them

1. Poor Drying

Your dryer must have a steady stream of air flowing from the dryer bin to the outside vent. This airflow pathway allows moisture to escape, giving your clothing a chance to dry. But as your clothes tumble, small fibers that slough off your towels and sweaters can clog the lint trap. If clothes aren’t dry at the end of a cycle, check the lint trap and clean it to improve airflow.

If your clothes seem dry enough but are creased and wrinkled, investigate the settings selected. Every setting on your dryer is designed to dry your clothing at a different temperature and for a different length of time. Perhaps you’re using the wrong settings for delicates or activewear. Also, removing clothing promptly from dryers prevents wrinkles from setting in.

3. Operational Failure

If your dryer won’t run, check the plug. Check the cord for any signs of melt or fraying, and look at the plug prongs for discoloration, bends, or breaks. If everything looks right, turn your attention next to your outlet. Use a multimeter to confirm that the outlet is drawing power—120 volts  for most U.S. households.
