Throughout the summer, your stone pavers, patios and walkways will likely get plenty of use. From walks in your backyard to parties for the kids, you might notice wear and tear on your paved surfaces, especially as the warm months come to an end. The guide below discusses ways to maintain and restore your stone pavers, patios and walkways

A Guide to Maintaining Paved Surfaces

Patios

Whether your patio is made from stamped or poured concrete, it will need some attention during the summer months. Once or twice per week, rinse the surface with a garden hose, especially after outdoor parties or gatherings. To get rid of more stubborn stains and debris, cleanse your patio with a pressure washer toward the middle and end of the season. Protect your patio by applying a topical sealer that will prevent scratching and slipping, and give the surface a glossy finish.

Walkways

patios and walkwaysWalkways require some of the same upkeep tasks as patios. Sweep away dirt and debris with a bristled broom once or twice a week, and spray the surface with a garden hose a few times per month. Pull any weeds that emerge along the edges and within the cracks. If you have path lights, replace any burnt-out bulbs to promote nighttime visibility.

Stove Pavers

Stone pavers make patios and walkways more interesting and aesthetically appealing, but they may require a bit more upkeep. Since they’re composed of brick or block mosaics, they tend to be more susceptible to weed growth. Fill gaps and cracks with polymeric sand to deter the growth of weeds, and seal your pavers to prevent cracks and stains.
