Taking medication is sometimes necessary to help us get better. However, if you’re one of the many people who have difficulty swallowing medical prescription pills, the process may seem like a chore. Here are a few strategies to make pill swallowing a little easier.

How to Simplify Swallowing Pills

1. Drink Plenty of Water

medical prescriptionThe moister your throat is, the easier it will be to swallow a medical prescription pill. Drink a glass of water before you take the medication to lubricate your throat and continue drinking as you swallow the pill. After, drink some more water to make sure it goes down to your stomach.

2. Try the Lean Forward Method

If you have trouble swallowing pills, you may find the lean-forward method helpful. Place the pill on your tongue and take a small sip of water without swallowing. Then, move your chin toward your chest and swallow the pill.

3. Mix Your Pill With Food

Mixing your pill with applesauce or another soft food can help it go down easier. However, don’t cut or crush your medical prescription. Some pills have to be broken down slowly to ensure a safe release of the drug.

4. Use a Lubricant Gel

Coating your pills with a lubricant gel can make it slide down your throat easier. This gel can also make your medication taste better. If you don’t mind the taste of your medication, it won’t be as difficult for you to take it.
