Maria Masterson who lives in our Bridgeport Connecticut is avid cat lover. She fell in love with them in her youth and it has continued into adulthood. Ms. Masterson is a widow who lost her husband two years ago due to health issues. Since his untimely death, her new cats have helped her deal with his loss.

She owns four cats, all domestic shorthairs. She received all four cats from friends or rescued as strays in her community. Their names are Simon, Lily, Blackie and Muffin. All of her cats have had services done under the Pets for Life program at Nutmeg which has included spay and neuter surgery. In particular, Muffin had an additional surgery to repair a hole in her trachea that was suffered while wandering outdoors. Muffin is currently recovering at Nutmeg and will be released back to Ms. Matterson once she has recovered the surgery. Ms. Masterson is very “thankful for the service” and how it is helping her financially while prolonging the life of her pets.

One of our latest clients met with the Pets for Life door to door outreach concept is “Amerilis Colon.” She owns “Lucky”, a Rat terrier who is 1 year old. Amerillis is a Mother of five lovely kids and she is a self-employed full-time mother who has lived in Bridgeport for twenty-five years.

Ms. Colon jokes how “Lucky” has become her “6th child” which is symbolizing the importance of him to the family structure. The Pets for Life program utilized by the Nutmeg Spay/Neuter clinic “has been a blessing” for her family by providing services for her pup at a reasonable rate J. She was very satisfied with the services provided for “Lucky” and would like to “pass the blessings to another family” by spreading the word about the program to friends in the community who own pets.

Ms. Colon has become an advocate for the Pets for Life program which will help to spread the word about the program.

Nixa Reyes was met while door knocking in the Bridgeport focus area. She has lived in Bridgeport her whole life and is a Mother as well as a Grandmother. Nixa Reyes used the Pets for Life services to provide spay/neuter for her dog Coco. Coco is a Shihtzu mixed breed that is about two years old. Along with the spay package she received for her dog, Coco was also treated for flea allergy dermatitis on her rump with antibiotics. Ms. Reyes is very grateful for the services provided, “it has helped her baby Coco maintain her health and saved her money” which she has used for other needs in the household. Ms. Reyes has become a valuable asset for the program who has spread the word about the program to neighbors, family and friends leading to several appointments for spay/neuter at Nutmeg Spay/Neuter Clinic.

Nixa is “grateful for the service” and she appreciates and supports the goal we are setting out to accomplish.

Christopher Keith, Community Outreach Manager met Virginia Bello while door knocking in the Bridgeport focus area. Virginia Bello is the proud owner of 12-year-old poodle mixed male dog-named “Polly”. Virginia has lived in Bridgeport for thirty years and Polly was her first companion animal. Polly was an older dog and Virginia was concerned about safety of having the surgery at an older age. Based on her concerns, a wellness visit was set up with Dr. Chris, the resident Veterinarian at Nutmeg Spay/Neuter Clinic. He found the animal suitable for surgery based on his evaluation and approved moving forward with the neuter surgery as well as the removal of a growth in Polly’s mouth. After several missed appointments due to constant snowstorms falling on his appointment days this winter, Polly was finally neutered and the mass was removed.

Ms. Bello is beyond grateful for the service and she thinks that “Nutmeg Spay/Neuter Clinic is a blessing” that helped prolong Polly’s life. She is going to let all of her family and friends know about the services and all of the positive aspects of the Nutmeg service.
