Pets for Life (PFL) is driven and guided by the philosophy that a deep connection with pets transcends socio-economic, racial, and geographic boundaries.  PFL takes a comprehensive, long-term approach to address the inequity in and lack of access to pet resources people experience in underserved communities through door-to-door engagement and pet owner support services.

Systemic inequity and institutional barriers create immense challenges for millions of people every day.  PFL has been a leader in advocating for people who are routinely overlooked, and in many instances, looked down upon.

Offering services is an important part of the solution and the immediate need, but bringing true change requires tackling the larger systems that keep inequity present in our local communities.  PFL embraces the human in humane, extends compassion and respect to all audiences of pet owners, and works to gain greater recognition within the animal welfare movement of how these systems of oppression impact pet ownership for millions of people in underserved communities.

Nutmeg Clinic is an official mentorship for the Humane Society of the United States Pets for Life Program.  PFL provides access to free veterinary care, services, and information to people and their pets with limited or nonexistent access to pet wellness resources. Nutmeg Clinic’s current focus area is the Bridgeport zip code of 06608.

Nutmeg Spay/Neuter Clinic is committed to helping families in need of spay/neuter services residing in the 06608 zip code of Bridgeport, CT.
