After a windshield replacement, the next 24 hours are critical to ensure the repair lasts. You have to be careful not to break the seal. If possible, you should refrain from driving. Here are some additional tips to help you take care of your newly replaced windshield.

3 Care Tips After Windshield Replacement

1. Wait to Drive

If you must drive after the replacement is installed, wait at least one hour. Avoid potholes, bridges that vibrate sensation, and speed bumps. Do not slam doors or the trunk, and keep at least one driver or passenger window open 1 inch or more. If all windows stay closed, pressure inside your car can build, especially on a hot day. Don’t let pressure force the seals of a new windshield to break.

2. Clean Only If You Must

Windshield ReplacementDo not pressure-wash your car nor take it through a car wash—wait three days or more after installation before cleaning. Rain won’t cause problems nor will washing by hand. Don’t clutter the dashboard nor apply pressure to the windshield, and leave the adhesive tape in place for 48 hours.

3. Think About the Future

After the postinstallation waiting period is up, you may clean your windshield inside and out with a high-quality cleaner. Replace window blades as soon as they cause streaks. Repair chips as quickly as possible, and avoid parking in direct heat for long periods. Heat weakens glass over time and can dry out seals.
