Cheese has been a staple in cultures around the world for thousands of years, and it comes in almost as many varieties. Whether it’s eaten alone or used to top a deli sandwich, pizza, pasta, crackers, or salad, cheese never disappoints. Cheeses are made in various places all over the world, which means it’s likely there are several varieties you have yet to try. Here are a few types that are sure to please your palate.

Tasty Cheeses From Around the World

1. Podlaski

Dairy products are a fundamental part of Polish cuisine, so it isn’t surprising that a wide array of cheeses come from Poland. Podlaski is a semi-soft, pale yellow cheese with a smooth texture and mildly sweet flavor. It’s made from pasteurized cow’s milk. It’s a good cheese for cooking and is typically served alongside fresh fruit and dark bread.

2. Morski

deliAnother favorite Polish-style cheese is Morski. Like Podlaski, it’s a semi-soft cheese with pale yellow coloring and is made from pasteurized cow’s milk. This cheese has a smooth texture, which makes it great for melting, and a mild flavor that isn’t too overpowering. Morski is can often be found in salads and deli ham sandwiches.

3. Tilsiter

Tilsiter cheese originates from a region in former Prussia which is now part of Russia. First produced in the 19th century by Swiss settlers, it’s made from pasteurized cow’s milk and needs to rest for two months after its initial production. The final result is a long block of cheese that has a medium-firm texture and small holes all over. Over time, it develops a tangy flavor and comes out rich and creamy, allowing it to melt well. It pairs nicely with darker breads and potatoes.
