The gallbladder is a small organ that is shaped like a pear and located just underneath the liver. While there is a prevalent misconception that the gallbladder is not important, in reality, it plays a vital role in the collection and storage of bile. That doesn't mean, however, that one needs a gallbladder to lead a full, normal, and healthy life; gallbladder removal is a common surgical procedure. Below are a few signs that you may have issues with this organ.

How to Tell If You Gallbladder Problems

1. Pain

Pain is the most widely reported symptom in people with gallbladder issues. Discomfort tends to feature most prominently in the mid- or upper-right section of the abdomen. It can vary in intensity from mild and intermittent to severe and constant. The pain may eventually spread to the chest and back as well.  Gallstones—small, solid masses of cholesterol or pigment—can get stuck in a duct and cause particularly intense pain.

2. Fever

Treatment for a gallbladder infection depends on the severity of the infection and the intensity of symptoms. Milder cases may only need antibiotics, but more serious infections could necessitate gallbladder removal.

3. Nausea & Vomiting

Whether it's something as minor as gallstones or as potentially serious as a gallbladder abscess, nausea and vomiting are hallmarks of issues related to this organ. Bear in mind, however, that digestive problems such as acid reflux, bloating, diarrhea, and gas are more associated with chronic gallbladder disease.
