Shoe Orthotics St. Charles

Did you know that there are 3 arches in the foot? Most people don’t! If you have foot pain, plantar fasciitis, heel spurs, bunions, or hammer toes, there is a good chance that your feet are not supported properly.

One of the most common foot instabilities is called over pronation.

Here are the 5 RED FLAGS of over pronation:

  1. Foot flare (toe out)
  2. Internal knee rotation (the knee doesn't line up straight over the foot, it turns inward)
  3. Bowed achilles tendon
  4. Flat foot (look for collapse of fabric along the inner portion of a shoe)
  5. Uneven shoe wear

Although you can buy over the counter shoe orthotics at stores and online, none of them offer a true “custom” fit. A custom fit ensures that all 3 arches have just the right amount to them and that you are fitted for each foot separately, which means that both feet are rarely the same.

Podiatrists tend to use hard molded plastic shoe orthotics that are not entirely “functional” for the foot. The foot is designed to flex and move, not to be rigid.

In our office we start by using our state of the art foot scanner to produce a 3D image of your foot and measuring the problem areas. Our doctor is able to consult with you about what types of shoes that you wear the most and what types of activity that you do in them.

For example, a construction worker that wears boots will need a very durable and more supportive orthotic. A high level athlete will need a very light orthotic. A professional that wears dress shoes will likely require a shorter length and lower profile to accommodate the smaller space in the shoe. We can even make flip flops with orthotics built in!

If orthotics are right for you, we can order them same day. Shipping takes about 10 days.

If you would like a COMPLIMENTARY foot scan, please call to set up an appointment with Dr. Ezell today.
