Lots of men deal with dark circles under their eyes, whether they’re caused by genetics, allergies, or poor sleep. Women often cover their undereye circles with concealer, but men may not feel as comfortable putting on makeup. Here are some premier men’s skin care tips that will help you look younger and more alert.

How to Look Less Tired

1. Get More Sleep

With how busy the world is and your never-ending to-do list, it can feel impossible to get enough sleep. The average American gets only 6.8 hours of sleep per night. Try to get 7 to 9 hours of sleep a night, the amount The National Sleep Foundation recommends for men 18 to 64.

To do this, turn off screens at least an hour before bed. The blue light they produce messes with your internal clock, making it harder to fall asleep. A cool room can help, too. Set your thermostat to 60 to 67 degrees for best results.

2. Apply Aloe Vera

Aloe vera has anti-inflammatory and moisturizing properties, making it a great tool in your men’s skin care routine. While getting ready for bed, rub some aloe vera gel under your eyes and let it sit for 10 minutes before wiping it off with a wet cloth. You could even purchase an aloe plant to get the same effect more naturally.

3. Treat Your Allergies

Dark circles under the eyes because of allergies are called allergic shiners. They happen because nasal congestion causes pressure, which produces more blood around the eyes, creating a darker appearance. They can be caused by seasonal, food, or indoor allergies.

To treat them, try over the counter allergy medicine or ask your doctor to refer you to an allergist. The allergist can do a test to figure out what you’re allergic to so you can avoid it.

4. Soak in Tomato Juice

The phytochemical lycopene in tomatoes has been shown to help skin and reduce inflammation. To try this method, make a mixture of equal parts tomato and lemon juice. Apply this mixture under your eyes for 10 minutes before removing it with warm water.

5. Use a Cold Compress

One popular method of reducing the appearance of undereye circles is to apply a cold compress. This will shrink the blood vessels in the area causing the dark color on your skin. Apply the compress or ice pack under your eyes for about 20 minutes in the morning.
