Preserving the condition of your antique car is essential for participating in future events. Otherwise, additional repairs and touch-ups will have to be made before presenting it to the public. Here’s a simple checklist that you can follow to ensure that the vehicle is properly stored and ready to go.

5 Tips for Storing Antique Cars

1. Lay Down Thick Plastic

Direct contact with gravel, cement, and other hard surfaces can wear down the tires. Moisture can also seep up through the ground and affect internal components. Keep them looking pristine by laying down thick plastic along the floor before parking the vehicle to create a solid barrier.

2. Find a Dry Location

3. Lubricate Moving Parts

Lubrication is essential for maintaining the functionality of the engine. If the car has been in storage for over a month, turn on the ignition and let the motor run for at least 10 minutes.  This will allow the oil to run through each of the parts and ensure they continue to operate smoothly.

4. Add a Fuel Stabilizer

Those who plan to store their vehicles for long periods of time should add a fuel stabilizer to the tank. It helps prevent condensation from developing and keeps the fuel fresh. Run the engine for approximately 15 minutes after an application to ensure it filters through the entire system.

5. Cover All Openings

Exhaust pipes and air inlets can seem inviting to pests looking for a place to live. An easy way to prevent them from setting up camp is to cover each of the openings with a plastic bag or aluminum foil. Secure the edges with tape to keep them from coming loose.

With the right precautions in place, you should have no trouble getting your antique car ready for the Charlotte AutoFair. This auto show event is held twice a year at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, with the next car show planned for October 17–19. They feature over 10,000 car exhibits and encourage vendors to register early.
