Spending a long time under the hot summer sun can be tough on your skin. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to protect your skin from threats such as sun exposure, pool chlorine, dirt, and ocean salt. Add each of the steps below to your skin care routine, from drinking water to microdermabrasion, for healthy and glowing skin all season.

Summer Skin Care Guide

1. Stay Hydrated

Hydration has a direct impact on your skin’s health since plenty of water will keep it clear. Warmer temperatures and time spent outdoors mean that you’ll sweat out more water during summer than any other season. Carry a water bottle with you at all times to drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water each day. Drink more if you’re spending extra time under the sun.

2. Moisturize

botoxHydration can be directly applied to the skin as well. Apply a moisturizing lotion at least once a day to protect your skin from extreme heat and sweat. Add an intensive mask once a week for a deeper contact hydration, and carry a toner spritz around with you for instant refreshment while out and about.

3. Wear SPF

SPF protects your skin from those strong UV rays during the summer season. Wear an SPF 30 or higher every day, even if you’re not spending the day at the pool. Even 20 minutes of direct exposure can harm your skin, so reapply every two hours. Look for sunscreens, lotions, or makeup that have an SPF for broad-spectrum protection.

4. Repair Sun Damage

Microdermabrasion will repair any sun damage that does occur. This minimally invasive procedure removes the thick outer layer of skin to leave you with fresh, glowing skin. By providing a thorough exfoliation, microdermabrasion improves the appearance of sun damage, wrinkles, and spots.
