Employers have a responsibility to make sure that workplaces are free from safety and health hazards and conform to all applicable OSHA standards. Safety compliance and training, therefore, is critical to the operation of all businesses. OSHA training helps keep workplaces compliant with OSHA standards for health and safety. These frequently asked questions will help you understand OSHA requirements for your industry.

OSHA Training FAQ for Employers

What Is OSHA?

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is a part of the Department of Labor. Its mission is to ensure that workplaces meet standards for employee safety and health. OSHA sets industry standards and provides training to reduce the incidence of workplace injuries and illness.

Does My Industry Require OSHA Training?

OSHA requires employers in most industries to provide some form of safety training. On top of that, industries that pose a greater risk to employee health and safety, including the maritime, agricultural, and construction industries, are often responsible for additional levels of OSHA training.

Does OSHA Training Require Tests?

Trainers will often assess knowledge of OSHA training course content with a written or practical skills exam based on your industry. Some courses may require periodic re-testing to ensure that employees retain critical health and safety information.

Do OSHA Training Completion Cards Expire?

Although OSHA does not certify employee training,  employers and states may mandate regular training so that employees stay up-to-date with applicable standards and procedures. OSHA-authorized trainers do issue course completion cards to employees who successfully complete OSHA Outreach Training Programs. Consult your training provider about card expiration for these OSHA classes.
