If your dentures are in good condition, having them adjusted or relined will improve the fit.  Check with your dentist to see if your denture can simply be relined since many ill-fitting dentures may have additional problems that can be only be corrected by remaking the denture.  This is a job not for the do it yourselfer with a kit from the local mercantile store.  A reline procedure, if indicated, needs to be completed by a qualified dentist and will enable your denture(s) to fit better and tighter than they have previously.

If your dentures have been in use for several years it could be possible that they have expired their use.   Having dentures does not mean removing your dentist from your Christmas card list.  Dentures and the tissues that support them need to be checked at least once a year.  A quality denture made by a dentist who knows what he is doing should have a life span of between 5 to 10 years.   Most insurance companies will pay their portion after five years.

I have made dentures for almost 30 years.  It usually takes 4 to 5 appointments and takes about a month.  I use the best materials I can get my hands on. Even after the denture is delivered I tell my patients that they will need at least 3 to 4 appointments after placement to take care of any sore areas or other issues.  If you get a denture “made in one day” that is exactly what your going to get.  A denture made in a day.  Remember:  you are having a part of your body replaced.

Dentally yours,
