Everyone wants big, bold, stand-out lashes. But when you first start looking into eyelash extensions, the sheer amount of choices and styles can be overwhelming. Here are some of the most common kinds you’ll see and how they differ from one another.

What Kind of Eyelash Extensions Will Best Suit You?

1. Mink

Mink lashes are among the best kind of extensions you can get, and currently the primary type of lashes used at Contoured Ink. They are thin and realistic looking, without the shiny plastic sheen some lashes have. They are super soft, slightly curly, and so lightweight you can layer them. All of this makes them possibly the most natural you can get. But there are some downsides. For one, they are made of real fur—so if you have a problem with that or an allergy to it, you may want to look for faux mink lashes or stick to synthetic. For these reasons, we recommend and use only mink lashes.

2. Silk

eyelash extensionsSilk is an excellent eyelash extension alternative to mink. It’s vegan, easy to take care of, and cheaper than mink. They are a little thicker at the bottom than mink, so you’ll have a more noticeable lashline, and silk does tend to have some of that shininess the synthetic lashes are known for.  Because they are cheaper and don’t look as natural, we don’t often use them, unless by specific request.

3. Synthetic

These are the least expensive extensions you can get while remaining durable. Synthetic lashes can give you that big, bold look you’re after, whether it’s a makeup look for the club or to capture a vintage style. They are very dark and thick, so you won’t need to wear mascara with them. However, someone interested in something more subtle might opt for one of the other options. These are sometimes mixed in with mink lashes to provide a thick, long and very layered eyelash look.
