Do you have a signature drink that you can always count on when you’re out? If not, it can be tricky to know what to order when at a bar. If you’re on the hunt for a classic drink, review the guide below to find a few options to try.

3 Drinks to Order at the Bar

1. Whiskey Sour

In 1862, this sweet and sour drink gained notoriety when it was featured in “The Bartender’s Guide” by Jerry Thomas. However, the history of this drink began with sailors. Due to the length of their trips and the lack of refrigeration onboard ships, it was hard to find foods and drinks that would last. To avoid wasting anything, sailors began mixing ingredients, such as lemons, limes, and rum. Today, however, this classic drink is made with whiskey.

2. Moscow Mule

The Moscow mule originates from Moscow, Russia, where it was created by Sophie Berezinski. In 1941, Sophie traveled to America in hopes of selling the copper mugs that would eventually become symbolic of the drink itself. Sophie traveled to Los Angeles to find a buyer. She eventually met John Martin, who had recently purchased the Smirnoff Vodka distillery, as well as Jack Morgan, who was in the process of creating his own ginger beer to be sold in bars. The three entrepreneurs worked together to create the perfect drink mixed with vodka, ginger beer, and chilled in a cool copper mug.

3. Mojito

The mojito is a light and refreshing drink that you can generally find in any bar. Originating in Havana, Cuba, the history of this drink dates back to the 1580s, and it was used to prevent an outbreak of scurvy. It’s infused with mint leaves, white rum, lime juice, and syrup.
