Bathroom remodeling presents some unique challenges when dealing with a small space. If you approach the project correctly, however, you can maximize every square foot for all the storage and elbow room you need. Smart design can result in a beautiful and functional room. Here are three strategies to use in your planning.

Smart Ways to Remodel a Small Bathroom

1. Use Wall Storage

A wall-hung vanity won’t take up as much physical or visual space as it would on the floor. You’ll still get your storage but with more open space inside the bathroom itself. A high shelf above the door or shower can provide some extra storage for towels or other supplies while being out of the way.

2. Use Glass

Light makes a small space feel larger, so install at least one window in the bathroom. Skylights can let in light without sacrificing privacy. Use a frameless glass shower door rather than a normal shower curtain. This makes the space feel larger than it is by extending the line of sight and allowing all the natural light from your window to enter the shower.

3. Keep It Simple

Establish a single focal point, such as a piece of artwork above the tub or a large mirror with pendant lighting above the sink. Use only one type of metal in your hardware and keep the color palette simple with one main color and touches of a secondary color. The fewer items fighting for the gaze’s attention, the more elegant and spacious the room will appear.
