A lush, beautiful lawn can make your home the envy of the neighborhood. It doesn’t come easy, and you’ll need a proven lawn care method to achieve the results you want. Sticking to these guidelines will ensure you get stunning results and keep your yard healthy.

Your Guide to Hawaii Lawn Care

1. Watering

Many homeowners make the mistake of watering every day, especially during warm summer months. You may over-saturate the soil, which will cut off the root’s vital oxygen supply. Too much water also causes root rot because the plant remains soaked under standing water. Make sure your lawn gets at least one inch of water per week, and give it more if it’s hot as the heat will evaporate liquid. For the best results, water before the sun reaches its peak to reduce evaporation, giving the grass more time to absorb the liquid.

2. Fertilizing

Each type of grass is unique, so talk to a lawn care specialist about what fertilizing needs your yard requires. For example, if you have Bermuda grass, perform a soil test to determine its pH. This type of grass grows best with a pH of 6 to 6.5, so add a fertilizer with sulfur if the soil test results are high. If your lawn exhibits a yellow hue, it may be experiencing a nutrient deficiency, so give it a fertilizer with iron to correct the issue.

3. Mowing

This height provides ample shade for the roots so that water evaporates slower. Invest in a quality rotary mower from your lawn care store with height adjustment so that you can properly trim your grass year round.
