As a first-time parent, you’ve likely learned something new every day caring for your baby. Your responsibilities will only increase when they start teething at around six months of age. Use these teeth cleaning and soothing techniques to keep your baby healthy and happy.

How to Alleviate Teething Discomfort

1. Cold Therapy

The sensation of teeth growing out of the gums is sore, which will make your baby cranky. Provide pain relief with cold items. Soak a washcloth with cold water, or put a metal spoon or teething ring in the fridge. Then run the pleasantly cool object over your child’s aching gums. If you let them hold onto the item, supervise them to ensure they don’t choke.

2. Gentle Gum & Teeth Cleaning

Applying slight pressure at the same time will ease their teething pain. Massaging the gums with a clean finger is also helpful. Once their first tooth has erupted, get a soft-bristled infant brush for teeth cleaning.

3. Drool Control

While chewing on teething rings and other soothers, your baby will produce a lot of drool. Don’t just let it run out of their mouth—excessive drool can irritate the surrounding skin. Wipe it away with a soft, clean cloth. A bib will come in handy for these instances. If their skin seems dry, apply a water-based lotion.
