If you’re selling your home, you’re probably thinking about the upcoming home inspection. Leading up to the inspection, don’t forget to pay attention to your garage door. While you may often overlook them, garage doors will add or subtract curb appeal.

3 Things to Do Before Having Your Home Inspected

1. Clean the Garage Door

The exterior of your home is the first thing a prospective buyer will see upon arrival. Some people choose to pressure wash the outside of their homes to remove dirt and grime, and you can do the same thing to your garage door. You could also apply cleanser to the door and scrub it with a non-abrasive brush. Be sure to rinse any excess cleanser off with a garden hose once you have finished cleaning.

2. Look for Obvious Wear & Other Defects

Take a look at the hinges during your visual inspection, which will become rusted over time. Making these little adjustments before your inspection will have a significant impact on buyers.

3. Schedule a Professional Tuneup

Along with aesthetic concerns, you also want to ensure that the door is functioning properly. It will be worth scheduling a tune-up in this case, especially if it’s been a while since the last service on your garage door. A technician will look at springs, cables, motors, and other components needed to make a garage door function.
