Most people enjoy spending a hot summer day lounging by the swimming pool, but not everyone wants to brave the crowds and fight for seats at the public pool. However, if you have a pool in your backyard, you get to enjoy all of the benefits without any of the hassle. If you plan to install one, here’s what you can expect from the swimming pool contractors when they arrive.

5 Steps in the Swimming Pool Installation Process

1. Design

The swimming pool contractor will work with you to design the size and shape of your new pool as well as the ideal placement for the installation. As they survey your land, they should also take a sample of the soil as this will have an impact on the construction process.

2. Excavation

The contractor will outline the swimming pool and bring in an excavator to remove the dirt. Typically, you’ll have the option of keeping the dirt or having them transport it off of your property. Once the hole has been dug, a gravel drainage bed is installed at the bottom.

3. Structural Installation

swimming poolExcavation should be done within a day, and then the actual construction process begins. The swimming pool will be reinforced with steel rebar around the surfaces of the steps and walls. Once the skeleton has been put into place, the plumbing and electrical components will be installed.

4. Concrete Pouring

Concrete is injected into the pit before finishers carve and sculpt it to conform to the shape of the pool design. It then needs to dry for a few weeks, and while that’s happening, you and the contractors should monitor it for cracking.

5. Plastering

Once sufficiently dried out, a layer of plaster will be applied. This is the waterproof layer that protects the pool from damage and makes pool cleaning easier. Once the plaster is added, it’s time to fill the swimming pool with water and start enjoying.
