For many families, one of the best aspects of summertime is the county fair. If you’re representing your farm with goats in tow, you’ll need to start preparing your tack box for the festivities. From livestock feed to handling and health-related supplies, don’t forget to add these items to your shopping list.

3 Essential Fair Tack Box Items for Goats

1. Halters

Whether you need to lead your goat to the grooming area or show them off to patrons, a halter makes it easy to send them in the right direction. Plus, since it doesn’t only go around their neck, it won’t cause them pain when you pull on it. Opt for halters made from soft, braided fiber or rope, and make sure they’re adjustable. The halter should also have a lead (similar to a leash) so you can pull on it.

2. Livestock Feed

Stock up on their favorite food in advance, and make sure to purchase sealed containers you can transport the feed in. This will prevent other animals or pests from sniffing out your goat’s livestock feed and sneaking into the tack box. You should also pack containers for the goats to eat from if the fair doesn’t provide them.

3. Coagulant Powder

If your goat scrapes their leg on a fence post or steps on a stray nail at the fair, they may find it hard to stop tending to their wounds. Unfortunately, if they keep licking or biting the area, it will cause them even more pain, and the wound won’t be able to heal. To prevent an infection and ensure your goat can enjoy the fair, stock up on blood-stop powder. Also known as a dressing powder or blood coagulant, this product will dry up sores, lesions, cuts, and abrasions, control tissue granulations, and deodorize the wound. It also eliminates the need for a bandage, which your goat might pull off.
