If you’re handy, then you may be able to handle plumbing repairs around your home yourself. This will save you money and give you the satisfaction of caring for your home yourself. However, to do so, you’ll need the right plumbing supplies. Here are a few tools to consider purchasing.

Plumbing Supplies Handy Homeowners Need

1. Pipe Wrench

A pipe wrench is designed to turn threaded pipes, and you can use it for either tightening or loosening them. Start with a basic Stillson® wrench, which is an adjustable tool that works for pipes of different sizes. It has serrated teeth on its jaws to make it easier to grip a smooth pipe.

2. Plunger

plumbing suppliesPlunges are commonly used by homeowners. When you experience a toilet or sink clog, the plunger uses suction to dislodge the clog and get your drain moving again. Get one for each bathroom toilet, and a separate, smaller one to use for the sinks.

3. Hacksaw

A hacksaw is a metal-framed, fine-toothed saw used for cutting metal or plastic plumbing parts.  It has a U-shaped bow frame that holds the thin blade. Keep in mind that the number of teeth on the blade will impact the cut. 32 teeth are best for cutting smaller objects while 14 teeth are better for larger plumbing parts.

4. Basin Wrench

This specialty tool is used to either remove or install a faucet. The basin wrench can reach the low-profile mounting nuts that are on the underside of the sink, while most other tools cannot. The gripping head is at the end of a long handle and can pivot into awkward under-sink spaces.

5. Drain Snake

A drain snake is used to unclog a drain. It has a thin and flexible auger that you can shove down the drain to dislodge the clog and pull it out. Unlike chemical clog removers, which will corrode your plumbing, it won’t damage your system.
