A fast-draining battery can be a constant nuisance when you’re on the go. Whether for business or pleasure, you rely on your iPhone® every day, and it’s important to know when it’s time for a new battery. Here are a few signs that your battery is failing, and it’s time to invest in a new Apple® device.

Signs of a Dying iPhone Battery

1. Your iPhone Shuts Down Unexpectedly

apple devicesIf your iPhone crashes for no reason, it’s likely due to the battery. If this occurs, plug the iPhone into a wall outlet. Fully charge it, and then use it until the battery completely drains. Charge again, and perform a soft reset by holding the sleep button on the side and the home button on the front until the Apple logo appears on the screen. While helpful, this is usually only a temporary fix; in most cases, the battery is worn and will continue to cause problems.

2. Your iPhone Gets Hot

When your iPhone recharges, it creates heat. The device’s batteries are designed to regulate this heat and protect the other parts of the iPhone from it. If your iPhone gets hot, it’s usually from battery failure. Go to “Settings” and “Battery.” Write down the numbers under “Usage and Standby. Then, press the power button to put the device in standby mode. After 10 minutes, check the times again. The Standby should have only gone up 10 minutes; usage shouldn’t have changed. If it has, there’s something wrong with the battery.

3. The iPhone Won’t Charge

If your iPhone isn’t charging, first check that the charger is plugged in and that there’s nothing wrong with the cable. Also, use compressed air to remove any dust and debris from the charging port. If it still won’t charge or hold a charge for long, the battery no longer works. Luckily, an Apple device professional can easily replace it.
