Replacing fluids is an essential component of vehicle maintenance since their effectiveness declines over time. Avoid the need for auto repair by determining when to swap out each of the following fluids during a car tuneup service.

4 Vehicle Fluids That Require Regular Replacement

1. Engine Oil

Oil provides the lubrication your engine needs to move. Over time, road debris will collect in the reservoir and thicken the liquid. To ensure the fluid remains sufficiently clean and reduce the amount of dirt that gets into the system, take your vehicle in for an oil change service every 7,500 miles or six months.

2. Transmission Fluid

This fluid keeps the transmission functional by lubricating the components. It also helps keep the system cool and transmit power to where it needs to go. Since natural wear and tear degrades the fluid’s effectiveness, change it out every 30,000 to 60,000 miles. A car tuneup service will also completely flush out the system and check for leaks before refilling the fluid.

3. Radiator Fluid

4. Brake Fluid

Brake fluid is essential to the safety of your vehicle. It reacts to the force of the pedal and applies pressure to each of the rotors, slowing down the wheels to come to a complete stop. If the color appears darker than its original golden brown, take it in for a replacement. Otherwise, you can have it done during a regular car tuneup service or every four to five years.
