Summer is undoubtedly the season for barbecuing, and what better way to do it than with your trusty gas grill. While ordering residential propane is on top of your to-do list, there are a few actions you must take first before firing up the grill. Following the tips below ensures that you’ll have a safe grilling session under the sun.

5 Tips for Preparing Your Gas Grill for the Season

1. Inspect for Rust

A gas-powered grill that’s been idle for most of the year may already have a couple of issues under the hood. Take it out and look for signs of rust on the grates, burners, and other steel surfaces, especially if yours was left outside for quite some time. Some of the deep-seated gunk can be cleaned off, but for rusted parts, you might need to replace them instead.

2. Clean It Inside Out

Show some love to your gas grill by giving it a good scrubbing from top to bottom. Disassemble its parts, and clean with a brush and soapy water. Try spraying some of the areas with water mixed with one-part distilled vinegar as a cleaning solution; sometimes, lemon juice works, too. Use scrapers or steel brushes to take out crud on the grates—if you opted for wire brushes, make sure there are no leftover bristles on the surface.

3. Look at the Fuel Lines and Tank

Give those fuel lines a once-over to ensure there are no cracks or leaks on the rubber.  residential propaneWhen checking your grill tank, look for excessive rust or signs of leaks. Aside from the tank itself, check the regulator and valves as well. Grill tanks don't have gauges so it is always a good idea to have an extra tank in case you run out while grilling.

4. Do a Test Grill

After cleaning and putting everything back together, it’s better to do a dry run before the actual grilling starts. Rub a sliced onion on the grates to loosen up leftover crud; it can also be a good way to check for uneven hot spots.
