Who knew that a humble part-time business in a rented garage would become an around-the-clock operation with more than 20 full-time employees? Building a top-notch crane service company has been a labor of love for founder Tim Nall. Here’s the story of his company’s first 40 years, the solid foundation for a bright future.

Looking Back on 40 Years of Crane & Rigging Service From One of High Point, NC's Pillars

A Modest Start for a Dynamic Business

Tim Nall rented a garage on Kersey Valley Road in High Point, NC, and with his mother’s help, he started a modest automotive business in 1976. Although he was working only part-time, he impressed customers with his skill and dedication. In July 1980, Tim realized his dream of a full-time business, naming the company S&T. S&T reached another milestone in January 1982, when they bought and moved to 1212 Elon Place in High Point.

The Growth of Crane Service

With the purchase of a 1979 Ford crane truck in 1986, the company branched out into its successful crane service business. Tim still has that first truck to this day. S&T continued providing automotive and towing services and was the third company to earn a towing contract with the City of High Point. From the late 1980’s to the early 2000’s, the company had 22 full-time employees and operated 24/7.

With the birth of Tim’s daughter Anamarie, the company changed it’s name to A & M Crane and Rigging and Anamarie became the youngest VP of any High Point business.  His son Seth boasted the title of 2nd youngest VP in the area.  In 1994, Tim continued to expand their services by working with churches and roofing companies to remove and replace church steeples.

Building for the Next Generation

Tim’s son Seth thrived alongside his dad, working and training with the various equipment so he could take over when Tim retired. With his flair for customer service, an optimistic outlook, and an infectious smile, Seth was great with the company’s clientele. Like his father, Seth never met a stranger.  Sadly, on July 21, 2012, tragedy struck, and Tim lost his 21-year-old son suddenly. Everyone throughout the community felt the devastating loss, especially Tim, who still feels it today.

Undaunted, in 2016 the company launched A&M Steeple Cleaning, a division of A&M Crane. After 38 years of her dedication to his dream, vision, and company, Tim’s mother Joyce retired. The family and business continue their focus on providing high-quality customer service to their community.  Tim and A&M Crane are proud to be known as a pillar in the community that has enabled their success, regularly sponsoring local events, offering an annual Seth Nall Scholarship Fund in the memory of Seth and being active in their local church, Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church in Trinity. Tim is also active in the Masons, Shriner’s, High Point Jaycees (retiree), Crimestoppers of High Point and many other community programs.

Tim and everyone at A & M Crane and Rigging wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to past, present and future customers and look forward to continuing to provide the best service available for many years to come.
The best is yet to come!
