Whether you’re building a new home, live in an older residence, or are simply looking for a system upgrade, there may come a time when you need a new HVAC installation. While working with experienced professionals will ensure optimal results, there are also simple steps you can take in advance to minimize inconvenience. Here’s what you need to know.

3 Steps to Preparing for HVAC Installation

1. Assess Existing Ductwork

If you’re having an entirely new system put in place, this step won’t apply. However, if you’re just replacing a furnace or compressor and condenser coil, you’ll need to optimize your air supply. Have existing registers and ductwork vacuumed of dust and dirt and the filters replaced before a new HVAC installation. Your contractors can also take this opportunity to check and address potential damage, leaks, and inefficiencies.

2. Confirm Plans

HVAC installationBefore work begins, confirm with your HVAC company that they’ve conducted a load calculation for your property. This assessment considers factors such as size, insulation and window efficiency, home positioning, ceiling height, and age. The results will dictate what size and type of system you need. In addition, check that your contractor is familiar with state and municipal rules and regulations surrounding HVAC installations

3. Make Way

Depending on the type of system you’re having installed, you’ll need to clear space both inside and outside your home. Make sure doorways and passageways are free of obstructions and a path is ready for outdoor equipment. Anxious or curious pets should ideally be out from under foot. Separate them from HVAC workers with crates or gates. Alternatively, keep them at a neighbor’s house or a kennel for the day.
