As a fifth generation family owned business, Middendorf Funeral Home has spent 150 years offering funeral services to the people of Ft. Mitchell, KY, and surrounding Northern Kentucky. While everybody knows how the basic ceremony is performed, it is not uncommon for loved ones to be confused on how exactly pre-planned funerals work and what services the funeral home actually provides. To help, here are a few questions that funeral directors are often asked and their answers:

  • What Do Funeral Directors Do? A funeral director is someone who makes all the arrangements for a funeral by filling out the necessary paperwork and executing the family’s wishes when it comes to decisions about the ceremony. They are also there for emotional support and guidance.
  • Is Cremation A Substitute For A Funeral? No, but it is an alternative to burial in a graveyard or family plot. Most of the time, people still have a funeral service before a cremation and then place the ashes within a funeral urn to be kept somewhere of personal significance.
  • What Should I Do If The Death Occurs In The Middle Of The Night Or On The Weekend? Most funeral directors are on call 24 hours a day so they can come and pick up the deceased right away or wait an appropriate amount of time for the family to say their final goodbyes. If the loved one was traveling at the time of death, a funeral director can also handle the transportation of the body to or from Kentucky.
  • What Government Agencies Can Help Pay For Final Expenses? Your funeral director will help you apply for financial assistance from Social Security, the VA fund, and any other organizations as needed.
