Your car’s paint job is a major part of its overall appearance. If it starts to get worn, chipped, or rusty, your car is going to lose value, and it might even lead to serious body issues like corrosion. 3 Materials That Can Ruin Your Auto Body Paint

1. Gasoline

Gasoline can actually stain your auto body paint if left for too long. If you’ve had a spill at the pump, grab the window washer or a wet rag to clean the area right away before the gas dries and evaporates.

2. Salt

In the winter months, all that salt used for melting snow and ice can easily get kicked up by your tires onto your auto body. Since salt is a corrosive material, it slowly breaks down the paint and can cause your vehicle to rust prematurely. Prevent this by washing your car regularly in the winter and using wax or another protective material over the surface.

3. Tar

In the summer, tar or asphalt on the road can start to melt when it gets really hot. If there’s any new material on the road that gets kicked up onto your auto body, it can stick to the paint and cause chipping when you try to remove it. If possible, avoid driving on newly tarred surfaces and keep an eye out for chips so you can take your car to an auto painting service right away.

4. Bird Droppings

Bird droppings are acidic, so they can lead to stains or corrosion if they’re left to dry on the surface of your car. You can’t always avoid these little presents on the top and sides of your vehicle, but whenever possible, try to park in a garage or covered lot. At the very least, avoid parking under trees where birds are likely to congregate.
