Today, a variety of cosmetic procedures for men enable plastic surgeons to remove and lessen the visibility of wrinkles. However, taking preventative steps now can delay their appearance in your later years. Here’s what you need to know about wrinkles and how to prevent them.

A Guide to Wrinkles in Men

What Are Wrinkles?

Creases and lines that develop on your skin are called wrinkles. While they can occur all over your body, they are often most obvious in areas that are exposed to the sun, including the eyes, neck, mouth, and hands. These are areas where cosmetic procedures can help remove wrinkles.

What Causes of Wrinkles?

cosmetic proceduresWrinkles are a natural part of the aging process. How severely your skin wrinkles, however, depends on several factors, including your weight and smoking. Also, your gene structure, skin color, and exposure to the sun all play roles in how quickly you wrinkle. Lighter-skinned people often wrinkle earlier than those with darker skin.

How Do You Prevent Wrinkled Skin?

Ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun and tanning beds damage the skin and accelerate the wrinkling process. Wearing sunglasses with 100% UV protection will shield your eyes and the sensitive skin around them and keep you from squinting, which also contributes to wrinkling. Before going outdoors, apply a sunscreen that’s at least 30 SPF every two hours, as well as after sweating or swimming. Cover up while outdoors and stay out of the sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., when UV rays are strongest. Finally, eat antioxidant-rich fresh fruits and vegetables, including blueberries, carrots, kale, and sweet potatoes, and avoid smoking to slow the wrinkling process.
