If your child becomes frustrated easily when doing homework, don’t ignore their struggles. If they don’t understand assignments, they will do poorly when tested on the material. Along with tutoring, consider the following advice for helping your youngster remain focused and improve their grades.

How to Prevent Homework Struggles

1. Create a Distraction-Free Atmosphere

If a subject doesn’t pique your child’s interests, their environment could distract them easily. Turn off the TV and take away their phone during study time. Put the desk facing away from doors and windows, so they can’t be tempted by what’s going on elsewhere. Make sure there is task lighting in the area to aid concentration and alertness.

2. Stick to a Regular Study Time

tutoringHaving a routine is beneficial for kids.  Determine when your child seems to be the most focused after getting home. This could be right away when they are still thinking about the school day or later in the afternoon when they’ve had time to decompress. This should be the time they study each day. However, don’t let them get started too late or they might not have time to finish their assignments. After all, a  set bedtime is also necessary to make sure they are well-rested for class.

3. Hire a Tutor

Even if you performed well in school, you might need a major refresher course before you can help your child with their homework. For immediate assistance, invest in professional tutoring. A tutor will offer advice in a relaxed, expectation-free atmosphere to make it easier for your child to grasp the material and retain what they’ve learned. In addition to helping with specific homework assignments, they will also provide additional activities and coursework to reinforce what’s learned in the classroom so they don’t fall behind.
