The initial idea of a timeshare always sounds like such a perfect idea. It is a guaranteed getaway to spend some relaxing time with friends and family. What many people do not consider when making the decision to purchase a timeshare is that down the road life happens and you may not be able to go on your vacations as often as you would like anymore. Coming to the realization that this relaxing investment might be coming to an end can be hard to accept at times. Here are a few signs that it might be time to get rid of your timeshare.

1)You Do Not Use it Anymore

This sign might sound like an obvious one, but many people do not like to come to the conclusion that they are simply not using their timeshare anymore. It is easy to say that you may have time next year to take a quick vacation, but then you eventually realize that you are saying that every year and you never seem to be able to get away like you keep promising yourself. This is one of the biggest signs that it is time to get rid of your timeshare. Afterall, it is silly to keep spending thousands of dollars each year on a vacation that you can not even enjoy.

2)Keeping Up With the Costs is Getting Difficult

It is no secret that owning a timeshare is not cheap. Even though the companies who sell timeshares might make it sound like they are not as expensive as they seem and that they are worth every cent of the investment, many owners come to the realization that keeping up with all of the costs that the timeshare entails can get difficult. One of the biggest downfalls to owning a timeshare is the cost of everything, and it does not help that each year these prices are going up and your vacation is staying the same. All of the money that is being spent on taxes, maintenance fees, and utilities could be going to better use. Whether that use would be going into savings, keeping it on the side incase of an emergency, or simply saving it for a rainy day, the thousands of dollars that is making a dent in your wallet does not have to be going towards your timeshare anymore.

3)Locked Into One Resort

When it comes to owning a timeshare the promise of easily being able to trade over your timeshare to a different location is typically given. Although the promise is easy enough to give, fulfilling it is a different story. It is a difficult and expensive process to trade over your timeshare, so if you catch yourself getting bored of your original vacation spot and wanting to start traveling to new locations, than it might be time to get rid of your timeshare. When you sign up for a timeshare you typically are signing up for one destination for the entirety of the contract. Trying to trade your timeshare can quickly become an expensive process and unfortunately your options for a new location are very limited and more often than not, you will end up not being able to trade your timeshare at all.
