Going to the movie theater is always an enjoyable activity. Whether there’s a new film out that you’re dying to see or just need something to do on a rainy day, the cinema is the ideal place to go. But, there are some basic etiquette rules everyone should follow when going to the movies.

Do:

Go with friends.

While there’s something both exciting and relaxing about going to the movie theater by yourself, sometimes movies are best enjoyed in the company of others. It gives you and your friends something to do together and bond over. After, you’ll have plenty to talk about.

Get snacks.

Movie theaterOne of the best parts about going to the movies is the delicious snacks available at the concession stand. Most people would agree, movie theater popcorn just tastes better. Sure, it might be a bit of an indulgence, but it makes the whole experience that much more special.

Throw your trash away.

You wouldn’t leave your empty popcorn bag or soda bottles laying around in your living room after you were done with a movie. The cinema staff members clean the theater up after the movie ends, but it’s courteous to pick up after yourself. There is always a trash can on your way out of the theater where you can toss your garbage.

Don’t:

Put your feet up on the chair in front of you.

While you want to be comfortable at the movies, there’s no need to put your feet up on the seat in front of you, especially if someone is sitting there! Similarly, try not to kick the back of the seat. It may not seem like a big deal, but to the person sitting in front of you, it’s extremely distracting.

Hold up the line.

You should certainly get snacks before your movie. But, avoid holding up the line by deciding what you want before you get to the counter. Although you may have plenty of time to spare before your movie starts, the people waiting in line behind you could be in more of a hurry.

Use your cellphone.

This used to be an obvious rule. But in the age of technology, people are attached to their phones, even in movie theaters. Avoid taking your cell phone out at all, even if it’s to quickly check a text message. Again, it may not seem like a big deal to you, but it probably is for those around you.
