There are many decisions to make when embarking on a home remodeling project, especially if you have pets and you’re re-doing a kitchen or bathroom. Keeping their needs in mind is important, as well. Here is a guide to home improvement for pet owners.

The Bathroom

If you have a cat, add a special area for the litter box, such as a semi-enclosed nook that is private but still allows access to clean the box. This will minimize litter scattering. Install a cupboard above to store litter, box liners, and scoop.

The Kitchen

A spacious nook for your pet dishes will be useful in a high-traffic kitchen. Next to it, add a shelf to hold food and treats, and install a low faucet to easily fill the water dish.

When you are redoing the cabinets during your home remodeling project, add deep drawers or install a low cupboard to hold pet food. Additionally, a mini pet pantry will help accommodate food bags or cans, treats, medicines, leashes, and extra dishes. These updates will prevent your pet’s food and other items from cluttering your kitchen and taking away valuable space.

To keep pets out of the kitchen, add Dutch style doors that can open fully or half-way. Aesthetically, they are a better option than a baby gate. Also, install a decorative door to separate the kitchen from utility areas, back porches, or mud rooms; this will keep the floors clean and mud-free.
