Senior year is an exciting time for high school students. From prom to graduation, it’s the last chance to make meaningful memories before you move on to college and the next stage of your adult life. Your senior portrait will be the photograph hanging on your family’s walls for years to come. Here are a few tips to help you prepare.

How to Take the Perfect Senior Photos

1. Choose an Ideal Setting

Schedule your senior portrait while you’re still in your junior year, so you have enough time to plan out the right season for the session. If you feel most comfortable in a festive winter outfit, book a winter portrait. If you prefer to show off a tan or want flowers in the background, aim for spring. Then, pick a place that relates to your interests or means something to you, such as the chemistry lab or the football field behind the school.

2. Add Propssenior portrait

Props are an effective way of showcasing your unique interests and hobbies. If you’re an athlete, think about taking your senior portrait with sports equipment or awards, such as a hockey stick, tennis racket, or neck draped in swimming medals. Are you a science whiz or an avid reader? Pose with beakers, a chalkboard of equations, or a stack of books. If you play an instrument, incorporate it into the photos, as well.

3. Dress in Your Style

Your senior portrait should reflect your personality. Choose an outfit that speaks to you, whether that’s a flowing summer dress or snappy slacks, blazer, and bow tie. Simple is best, though. Don’t go overboard with accessories or jewelry that distracts from the subject: you.
