An official ID bestows certain privileges on you, like buying alcohol.  It may even be required for certain things, like renting an apartment or cashing a check. Unfortunately, thanks to the internet, obtaining a fake ID is easier than ever. But using false identification is a serious legal offense with life-long repercussions, and this charge should always be addressed by a law firm. Find out what consequences you can expect in the state of Missouri.

What Consequences Do You Face With a Fake ID Conviction?

law firmAny form of identification that is forged or altered or presents a false identity is considered a “fake.” If the ID contains incorrect information, such as a misspelled name or a wrong Social Security number, it also falls under this umbrella, as does using somebody else’s ID as if it represented you.

In Missouri, the mere possession of a fake ID (even if you aren’t caught using it) is a class A misdemeanor. The punishment is a fine of up to $1,000 and jail time of up to one year. A driver’s license suspension is also possible. If you use the fake ID to misrepresent your age to purchase alcohol, that’s a separate crime.  And if you then get caught with the booze, a “minor in possession” charge is likely.
