Allow me the pleasure of introducing Bob Denny.  Bob is a modern renaissance man, a husband, a father of three, a jack-of-all trades, and a tremendous positive influence on all those around him.  Bob has been a rock-solid foundation of the Bomber Crew for almost three years.  He is a dedicated 5am-er, motivated to get in and workout almost every day well before sunrise!  Bob has a willingness to support and help others in any way he can.  In the recent events of the tornado disaster, Bob and his chainsaw, could be found all over Beavercreek helping our community in need.  If you’ve not had the privilege of meeting Bob, set you alarm for the 5am class, come in and ask him about the best way to cook wild game, or where is the best camping around, or what is the best way to refinish 100 year-old hard wood floors, or...

Bombers CrossFit Member Spotlight

How did you hear about CrossFit and what was your first experience?

My first experience with CrossFit was in 2012 while living in Charleston SC.  A customer was a coach at a local affiliate and put me thru a WOD in his garage gym. It was until I joined Bombers in 2016 that I actually got hooked on CrossFit.

When did you first come to Bombers CrossFit?

October 2016.  I believe my first class was on the 9th.  But I’m not sure.

How many days do you CrossFit?

I want to attend 5 classes each week.  If I also get to attend the Saturday class it is a bonus.

What classes do you normally take?

I am a dedicated 5am-er.

What motivates you/keeps you coming back to Bombers CrossFit?

CrossFit is the only fitness program I have been able to commit to for a long time because of the great people I work out with. Everyone is friendly and inviting. Always pushing you to give . And of course, a little friendly chiding if I sleep in a skip a few days.

What’s your favorite thing about the Dayton area?

I was born and raised in Beavercreek.  It is my home.  I love that the city is large enough to have performing arts and a good nightlife.  But small enough to not be a traffic nightmare.  And there are a large number of parks and outdoor recreation activities available within a short drive.

What accomplishment are you the proudest of (inside and outside of the gym)?

Inside the gym I am most proud of my improvements in my flexibility.  Specifically the first time coach Adam complimented my squat.  Outside of the gym I am most proud of the DIY renovations on my 100 year old home.

After a hard workout, what is your favorite meal?

Venison burger.

What are some of your interests outside of CrossFit?

Outside of CrossFit I enjoy a wide variety of outdoor sports and activities.  Golf, hiking, backpacking, camping, canoeing, hunting, & fishing are at the top of the list.

What is one goal within the gym that you’re working on?

I want to get better at gymnastics movements. The muscle up and hand-stand push-ups are particularly intriguing to me.

What impact has CrossFit had on your life/lifestyle/level of fitness?

CrossFit has been huge for me.  Since joining bombers I have completed two 1/2 marathons and a tough mudder.  Because of CrossFit I am better able to complete demo/ building projects around the house.  And I am able to enjoy rolling around and playing with my kids.

What advice would you give to a newbie?

Talk to people. Ask for advice.  And don’t be afraid to scale the weight to learn the movement.
