Vinyl siding is impervious to most of the issues wood may have in that it won’t rot or wear, there are still a few things to watch out for. Every once in a while, walk around your home to look for anything that may expose the foundation wall underneath, such as stains, punctures, or broken pieces. If your siding has detached from the surface underneath, it can allow mold to form and facilitate wood rot in the foundation wall. Though vinyl siding is fairly durable, it isn’t indestructible. Harsh chemicals and cleaners such as bleach, acetone, and organic solvents can fade it, and coarse bristle brushes can scratch it.
